Boys Varsity Tennis Team Achieves Undefeated Season and Takes Small Schools County Championship

The Ross School Boys Tennis Team is rapidly emerging as a powerhouse in high school tennis. What began as a modest group of dedicated students has transformed into a formidable contender, steadily crafting a legacy of excellence. The 2024 season saw the team achieve an undefeated record of 15-0. Their perfect season culminated in a thrilling victory, against fierce rivals Bayport-Blue Point, in the finals of the Small School Suffolk County Championship for the second consecutive year.

The remarkable coaching staff at Ross School, complemented by a thriving tennis culture in the region, has played a pivotal role in the team's development and contributed to their impressive track record. Our coaches, with their professional expertise and dedication, have played a pivotal role in developing the players' skills and fostering strong team spirit. Additionally, the enthusiasm and focus on tennis in Suffolk County offers players numerous opportunities to compete at the highest levels, providing valuable experience and exposure.

The team's success reflects the collective efforts and exceptional talents of its players, who have left their mark on Suffolk County high school tennis this season. Eduardo M. ’24 stands out as the best singles player in Suffolk, showcasing his exceptional skill and dedication. Alongside him, the doubles duo of Leonardo C. ’28 and Henry T. ’24 has earned the esteemed title of the third-best doubles team in Suffolk County, further adding to the team's formidable reputation. 

"I am so proud of this team. We have players who started playing tennis only two years ago and also players who have been in our after-school programs since they were four years old. It is amazing to see the work of many years of coaching and developing players come to reality. These players have worked very hard and deserve every victory this year," said Vinicius Carmo, Director of Ross School Tennis Center and Varsity Tennis Assistant Coach.

Strong community support from Ross parents, faculty, and fellow students, have bolstered the team’s success, creating an encouraging atmosphere that underscores the role of sports within the school culture. With each season, the Ross School Tennis Team sets higher goals and embraces new challenges in the continued pursuit of excellence, shaping a legacy of top-tier tennis at Ross.

Marcelo Reda, Ross School Athletic Director and Varsity Tennis Head Coach, said of the team’s accomplishment, "Winning a championship is great, but how we win it, and what we leave behind for younger generations is what truly matters," emphasizing the values of sportsmanship and integrity that define the team’s approach and exemplify Ross School’s Core Values.

The Ross School Boy’s Tennis Team concluded the season as finalists in the Small School Long Island Championship on May 28. Their remarkable record and continued growth signal a promising future for tennis at Ross School.
